In its series of Guest Lectures and Thought Leadership Programmes, PetroFed organised a lecture on 'LNG Handling, Storage & Regasification' by Mr. Sham Sunder, Adviser (Technical), Essar Oil Limited at the PetroFed Conference Hall on March 26, 2009.
Chairing the session, Mr. Suresh Mathur, Director (Oil & Gas), Essar Oil Limited and former Managing Director, Petronet LNG Limited highlighted the significance of natural gas in the 21st century and the global challenges presented in LNG production and marketing.
Mr. Sham Sunder, with his decade long experience in Petronet LNG Limited as Director (Technical) and a decade earlier in GAIL, covered all aspects of the LNG chain during his presentation. He began with the salient characteristics of natural gas and its utilisation and went on to elaborate on the LNG cycle, its handling, processing and regasification as well as various types of storage tanks and vaporisation schemes. He also covered shipping & transportation of LNG and operating limits at port and safety system.
An engineering graduate from Punjab University and a M.S. from Oklahoma State University, USA, Mr. Sham Sunder has earlier worked in USA for about 7 years in a large Petro-Chemical Complex and put in almost 17 years in Engineers India Limited. He has presented numerous papers at various fora and has two U.S. patents to his credit on Liquefaction of Natural Gas and Mechanical energy from geothermal resources.
The comprehensiveness of his presentation was evident by the extended Q & A session that followed his presentation.
