In view of the changing economic scenario in the world because of financial turmoil and recession in global economies, PetroFed organised an interaction with and lecture by the eminent expert in economic modelling and forecasting, Prof. B.B. Bhattacharya, Vice Chancellor, Jawaharlal Nehru University at New Delhi on April 24, 2009 in its continuing series of Guest lectures and thought leadership programmes. Dr. Bhattacharya dwelt in detail on ‘The Changing Global Economic Supremacy – G-20, India & China’.
The session was chaired by Sh. S.C. Mathur, Director, Essar Oil, former MD, Petronet LNG and Director (Finance), IndianOil who introduced the subject and the speaker.
In an erudite but succinct manner Prof. Bhattacharya brought out the state of affairs of various economies in the world, the evolution of G-20 and how the Asian economies of China and India are increasingly, gaining a say in global economics.
A Ph.D. in Economics from Delhi School of Economics, a UNESCO Fellow at Polish Academy of Sciences and Ford Foundation post doctoral fellow at the University of California, Berkeley, Prof. Bhattacharya was earlier Director and Professor at the Institute of economic growth for over two decades. He specializes in macro economics, monetary economics, public finance, planning and development and international finance. He has published ten books and over 100 papers in various national and international journals. His latest book is on Macro Economic Reforms: Growth and Stability. He has held, and still holds, a large number of distinguished positions in eminent organisations.
In an extended question and answer session, he freely interacted with the senior industry members present on issues concerning not only the subject of his lecture but on economic planning and forecasting also.
