CEOs Conclave on Climate Change

To deliberate and brainstorm on the critical issues concerning climate change a CEOs/Directors’ Conclave on ‘Corporate Concerns on Climate Change’ was organised by PetroFed on October 23, 2009 at New Delhi.

Chairing the session and leading the discussions, Dr. Prodipto Ghosh, Member of the Prime Minster’s Council on Climate Change, Distinguished Fellow, TERI and former Secretary, Ministry of Environment & Forests, in his comprehensive overview of key issues in the international climate change negotiations exhorted industry to preemptively respond to revenue possibilities under the ‘Perform, Achieve, Trade’ mechanism in India’s National Action Plan on Climate Change as well as the global carbon market.

Shri R. S. Sharma, CMD, ONGC in his presidential address drew attention to the concerns on the state of the global economy and the forthcoming Copenhagen Summit on climate change.

Earlier, Shri S. Behuria, Chairman, PetroFed and Chairman, IndianOil in his welcome address said that we may not only have to enhance investment in energy efficient and non polluting technologies but may also need to rigorously monitor emissions and demonstrate our actions as a part of good corporate governance.

The programme incorporated short presentations by ONGC, IOCL, CPCL, Honeywell, Schlumberger and Jindal Drilling.  At the end Shri A. K. Arora, Director General, PetroFed urged the over two dozen CEOs and Directors from about 20 organisations to initiate actions which would lead legislations on the subject instead of acting on the basis of legislations.
