"Brainstorming Session on Industry-Academia Interaction" |
A brainstorming session was organised by PetroFed under the aegis of the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas in association with member company, ONGC and DGH on October 17, 2008 at New Delhi on Industry-Academia Interaction on developing talent to sustain oil & gas industry in India.
The half-day programme attended by Directors & HODs of 22 academic institutions besides CEOs and Directors (HR) and other key executives of the oil & gas industry as well as senior Government officials was chaired by the Secretary, MoP&NG, Shri R. S. Pandey who made three announcements at the end of the session, namely:
- Creation of a new Nodal Agency for Oil & Gas (NAFOG) under the auspices of PetroFed which will include industry, academia and Government along with OIDB to look into various action points emerging in not only the current but previous brainstorming sessions and other reports on the subject.
- A mechanism in the ministry to create a cell to process all those action points where Governmental action is required and also to co-ordinate with other Government agencies/ministries.
- An annual meeting of this nature which will not only look at what should be done but also focus on what has been done.
The PetroFed study produced in August, 2006 on ‘Workforce Sustainability & Talent Management in the Oil & Gas Upstream Industry’ was presented by PetroFed member company and knowledge partner, PricewaterhouseCoopers.
During the Brainstorming Session ten presentations were made besides two summaries of deliberations by rapporteurs. The session focused on:
- Developing appropriate curricula to be taken up by prominent Educational Institutes including IITs and NITs based on petroleum industry's demand.
- How to leverage quality faculty and cultivate trainers?
- Enhancing Industry-academia interaction.
- Evolving a comprehensive HR policy for oil industry.
