Energy Efficiency Improvement |
It is not the end of oil but death of ideas which will imperil our energy security, said Dr. B. Mohanty, Director, Petroleum Planning & Analysis Cell while inaugurating the workshop on ‘Energy Management & Efficiency Improvement in the Oil & Gas Sector’ organised by PetroFed in knowledge partnership with Honeywell at New Delhi on November 13, 2009. The Centre for High Technology and the Petroleum Conservation Research Association were also associated.
The average income of the 5.5 billion people on this planet has been growing at an average annual rate of 5% in recent years and yet about 1.1 billion people live on less than one dollar a day, said Dr. Mohanty while highlighting the critical importance of energy management & efficiency improvement.
Welcoming the participants Director General, PetroFed, Mr. A. K. Arora urged corporates to voluntarily set-up targets for emission reduction and monitor progress and disseminate such information as part of good corporate governance. The industry needs to take note of the impending changes and remain one step ahead of expectations and legislations, he added.
In his theme address Mr. Vimal Kapur, Managing Director, Honeywell Automation India Limited sharply brought out that mere improvement in monitoring and operation can yield 2 to 4% energy improvement while energy management can yield 3 to 5% energy improvement.
The day-long workshop witnessed enthusiastic response from over a hundred participants from nearly three dozen organisations including Planning Commission and academic institutions. There were two sessions with 14 presentations covering issues of identifying potential and the manner of achieving it.
The first session was chaired by Mr. M. K. Joshi, Director (Technical), EIL and the second one by Mr. K. Murali, Director (Refineries), HPCL.
